I generally avoid “life update” blog posts. This will be my second, and only such post since my first opening blog.
Not because I’m emotionally unavailable (I am), but because most personal updates don’t help advisers run better businesses.
This one merits the exception.
I’ve officially joined Lume Wealth as Managing Director.
Lume has shared the formal announcement here:
👉 A new chapter for Lume Wealth: Patrick Flynn has joined the team
What is Lume Wealth?
Lume is a Brisbane and Gold Coast advice firm built around “head and heart” advice. They specialise in guiding clients through major life changes and high-stakes decisions, but without turning everything into a confusing performance art piece.
They’re also very deliberate about:
- communicating clearly and transparently,
- not overcomplicating things, and
- keeping the experience human as the business grows.
Why Lume Wealth
I’ve worked with Morgan and the team behind the scenes for years.
I’ve also worked with lots of other firms behind the scenes. So, why Lume?
The team: Morgan Hayward is an absolute legend, great at what she does, and passionate about giving back to the profession. We need more advisers like her. We’ve got an amazing core team, and we’re building a small yet high-powered A-Team around it.
I’m joining Lume because Morgan Hayward has built something worth building on.
The vision: The team at Lume share my vision for what an amazing advice practice can do with the right people, the freedom (read own AFSL), and the right capability.
Every advice practice has good intentions, not every practice has the appetite or drive to do what it takes to follow through.
If you’re thinking ‘that sounds pretty cool’, it is! If you’re looking for a place to grow roots, sharpen your craft, and be valued for excellence, check out the Careers page.
What I’ll be doing at Lume
My job is the engine room.
The practical focus is improving the systems and governance behind the advice, so that:
- advice preparation is consistent,
- implementation is smooth,
- follow-through is reliable,
- and the whole experience stays calm and clear for clients, even when life isn’t.
For the advisers out there in a similar boat, watch this space. Pedal is to the metal.
I’ll also be getting back on the tools as an adviser in my own right, working with those clients where I fit best.
Rachael Purnell has entered the chat
Over the coming months, Rachael Purnell will also increasingly be part of the Lume team as Client Services and Projects Manager.
Rachael’s superpower is calm execution and organised follow-through, the part of advice that turns “great plan” into “done”. I’ve been lucky to work with her, and Lume’s clients will be all the better for her presence.
What this means for Simply Kaizen Consulting
This does mean my consulting capacity will be more limited going forward.
I’ll only be taking on those engagements where:
- There are some quick wins (building on the pool of resources we’ve been refining for many years and am implementing right now);
- I’m personally intrigued;
- Interests align with Lume Wealth in some way.
If you want to explore something, send me a short note with what you’re trying to achieve, why it matters, and your timeline. I’ll tell you quickly whether it’s realistic.
What this means for Simply Advice Websites
No changes to the great work the team does at Simply Advice Websites. Business as usual. If you need a new website, need to find better quality clients, or need to save time: Check out Simply Advice Websites.
Onward
I’ll keep writing (ranting?) here as my fancy gets tickled, and if anything, I expect to have more real-world lessons and sharper points of view from building inside a growing advice firm.
Otherwise, to all the practices that have supported my full-time consulting journey and the work we’ve done at Simply Kaizen since 2019, to all those who have gotten value out of what I’ve shared here, to those that have appreciated the leadership I’ve sought to provide in that time:
Thank you.
